Price and Production Strategy
Our production strategy is to build Electroms to suit customers expectations by leveraging our proprietary vehicle platform, either as a kit for self-assembly, or complete assembly (Canada only). We have a range of configurations to suit your needs: 1 or 2 batteries, or frame, fairing and steering assembly for the hobby enthusiast.
Pricing information is available on request for serious buyers, please note that we are scaling our production capacity and pricing points are continually changing.
The Electrom has been designed to use as many off-the-shelf parts as possible to aid in reliability, replacement part sourcing, and speed to market. The first generation of Electrom’s will be produced on a small scale and sold in kit format to help keep shipping costs down. Once we have a proven market we will take the next step to true mass-production.

Generator & Chain Drive System
(GCD)
The Electrom uses a unique Generator & Chain Drive System (GCD). The GCD acts like an automatic transmission for a bike.
How it works:
The rider’s energy is split and goes via two separate drive chains to both an on-board generator as well as to the back hub motor with one very low gear. The rider can help the motor get the vehicle up to speed and to climb steep hills with direct pedal energy, but at speeds over 15 kilometers per hour, the chain drive is freewheeling and the rider’s energy is going solely into the generator.
Benefits of the GCD system:
No Gears – It allows the rider to pedal all the time at a constant effort without the need to shift gears to match the human energy to the speed the vehicle is traveling. This is especially advantageous in stop-and-go city situations. An additional benefit is that as the Electrom has a top speed of 60 kph (electronically governed to match local laws) it would need a huge range of gears if it used a conventional drive train.
Choose your effort – Because the rider can pedal as little or as much as they want, they have the choice of working hard and sweating, or pedalling at a gentle pace with efforts similar to walking. This is a nice feature if one is on their way to work in an office situation.
High quality exercise – Because the rider’s efforts are independent from the speed of the vehicle, they can pedal all the time against a constant resistance, even when going down steep hills or slowing down. This makes for a superior quality of exercise. The Electrom pedalling station is mounted high enough off the ground that there is no possibility of pedal-strike on tight corners which adds to the time one can spend pedalling.
Track power output – The human power generated by the GCD system is routed through a shunt and displayed in watts on the Grin Cycle Analyst V3 display.
Low maintenance – While the GCD may sound complex, the mechanisms that make it work are quite simple and time-tested. Because the drivetrain is under very little stain it does not stretch or wear out like a conventional bicycle drive-train and requires very little maintenance.
A few other features of the Electrom LEV
Exercise
Many electric bikes are really just electric scooters with pedals attached to exploit ebike standards as a loophole. Not the Electrom, it is designed to be pedaled. The pedaling station is ergonomically positioned to allow for hours of comfortable exercise, and the generator drive allows the rider to pedal as hard as they wish. As a result the quality of exercise is actually better than on a standard un-electrified bicycle. However, the exercise is voluntary, if one wishes they can just coast along pedaling gently or not at all.
No hard-to-find parts
While the design of the Electrom is different, it uses as many off-the-shelf parts a possible in order to guarantees buyers that spare parts will be available in the future. This will also help keep manufacturing and repair costs down.
Great visibility
The Electrom is safer in traffic than most recumbent bikes because the higher rider position puts the rider at eye level with other road users. The vehicle’s size also makes it much easier for drivers to see. In addition to the Electrom’s natural visibility, it also has a full complement of very bright LED running lights, headlights and front and rear turn signals.
Increased Safety
The Electrom has a full compliment of high visibility LED running lights, headlights, and front and rear turn signals. The vehicle’s size also makes it much easier for drivers to see.
One of the most important aspects of road safety for bikes is good communication with car drivers. The Electrom puts the rider at eye level with car drivers, this improves communication and visibility.
The windscreen on the Electrom places the side view mirrors right where the rider needs them for a complete view of the road behind them. The windscreen is made of a flexible plastic that will bend in the event of a crash in order to reduce the risk of injury to the rider.
