Generator Chain Drive
The Electrom employs a unique pedaling system, the Generator Chain Drive (GCD). The pedaling station is ergonomically positioned to allow for hours of comfortable exercise, and the GCD allows the rider to pedal as much or as little as they wish. Traffic? What traffic?
Because the Electrom is legal as a bicycle, the rider is permitted to lane-split and use bike lanes. The very narrow profile, less than 26 inches, allows the Electrom to easily slip through stalled traffic.
Low cost of ownership
The Electrom is thoughtfully designed for longevity and is simple to maintain. It will travel 200 kilometres on about 30 cents worth of electricity. The Electrom has very few parts that will wear out over time.
We estimate the total cost of owning and operating the Electrom to be around C$0.08/km (based on a 15,000km amortization).

Electrom owners do not pay for fuel, parking, or insurance and the energy cost are minimal. The Electrom will travel 200 kilometres on about 30 cents worth of electricity.
The Electrom is simple to maintain and it is thoughtfully designed for longevity with very few parts that will wear out over time. The components that do wear out are easily sourced through a local bicycle or motorcycle shop
No hard-to-find parts
While the design of the Electrom is unique, it uses as many off-the-shelf parts a possible in order to guarantee buyers that spare parts will be available in the future. This also helps keep manufacturing and repair costs down.
The Electrom is safer in traffic than most recumbent bikes because the higher rider position puts the rider at eye level with other road users. The size of the Electrom also makes it much easier for drivers to see. The Electrom also has a full complement of bright LED running lights, headlights and front and rear turn signals, as well as dual mirrors and a horn.
Clean appearance & no greasy chain
The Electrom is mechanically simple, and the majority of the mechanical components and wiring are placed under body panels and out of sight. The panels are easily removed for maintenance. The drive chains are also behind panels so no more chain grease on rider’s clothing.
Dependable tires are critical on any road vehicle and the Electrom comes standard with Heidenau motorcycle tires. These tires are highway rated with better traction and a much longer road life than standard bicycle tires. Motorcycle tires are also much more puncture resistant than bicycle tires. The Electrom tires comes preloaded with tire sealant. Flat tires are no fun on an e-bike so we take every step to avoid them.
Price & production strategy
The first generation of Electroms are being produced on a small scale and sold in kit format to help keep shipping costs down. Once we have a proven market we will take the next step to true mass-production.
